Soun Bwoii, born Umar Dixon is a dancehall artist who gained prominence in 2024 with his hit single “Pump Up.” The song became a viral sensation on TikTok, featured in nearly 100,000 videos and amassing over 2 million views on the platform. It also garnered more than 2 million views on YouTube within a couple of months. On Spotify, “Pump Up” has achieved 5.5 million plays, and Soun Bwoii currently maintains an average of 146,000 monthly listeners.
Born in the United States to Jamaican parents, Soun Bwoii moved to Brown’s Town, St Ann, Jamaica, at the age of two. He attended Calabar High and York Castle High in Jamaica. His journey into music was a natural choice, influenced by his father’s involvement in the industry; from the age of eight, Soun Bwoii began entering music competitions in Jamaica.
“Pump Up” was officially released in March of 2024 and soon the music video peaked at #14 on the YouTube Trending charts for Jamaica, showcasing that the heat around the viral track had now been extended to the streets of Jamaica and was being absorbed by core fans. Soon “Pump Up” was one of the most Shazamed songs in Jamaica, Martinique, and Guyana. Soun Bwoii’s “Pump Up” clearly resonated with a global audience, and in July 2024, his performance at SUMFEST (Jamaica’s Premier Reggae Festival) and Popcaan’s Unruly Fest at the Crystal Bowl in the UK garnered him a host of new fans. Soon he became a PR favourite in Jamaica, gracing the stages of On Stage (TV), Day Time Live (TV), Radio Jamaica, Jamaica Observer, and the Jamaica Star (print).
Soun Bwoii is not just dancehall. While he writes crafty and hardcore dancehall bangers, he is able to deftly deliver a fusion of sultry vocals laced with perfectly placed harmony arrangements fit for any R&B track.
He credits his four years at Pebble Brook High School for the Performing Arts – CCEPA (Georgia), where he was classically trained and learned to play the guitar and piano and participated in plays and Broadway shows. This experience undoubtedly helped Soun Bwoii create this unique blend of international appeal mixed with old and new school Jamaica, setting him apart while aligning perfectly with Jamaica’s current trends and integrating seamlessly into the global music scene. This makes his artistic vision to create music that bridges the Jamaican sound with the international market while maintaining its authenticity, a complete reality.
Inspired by icons like Sean Paul, Chronixx, Popcaan, and Dexta Daps, Soun Bwoii is committed to creating relatable music that resonates with a diverse audience.
